You may not realise that diamond prices are quoted in US Dollars, no matter what country you reside in. The recent shift in the USD/GBP exchange rate has raised the value of diamonds dramatically.
For example:
Let's assume an example diamond of a specific weight and specific quality was worth £1500 per carat when the Pound was worth 1.98 US Dollars a few months ago. Even if the base value of the diamond itself has not altered, the same diamond would now be worth £2070 per carat!
This alteration in the exchange rate, plus rises of the base value of diamonds at certain grades and weights, plus the record market highs for gold and platinum now well-and-truly filtered through to the retailers, all adds up to you possibly being significantly under-insured.
Existing clients should contact me to have their items re-valued even if the three-yearly update reminder is not due. Remember, I do not charge a valuation fee for this re-valuation service. All you pay is just the documentation fee, irrespective of the number of items.
If your valuation has been carried out by another valuer, you should approach them to obtain an updated report.
Adrian S Smith FGA has now moved to a larger office on the top floor of the Algo Business Centre
This move was necessary to accommodate further additions to the equipment and extend the library. An additional 50 or so books have been added to the shelves and a new area has been created incorporating a jewellery photographic studio. The new client waiting area is more spacious too. So, now clients will have a little more room in the waiting area as well

Those clients that had to endure the sometimes unbearable heat in the old office will be pleased to know that the new office is just perfect
The new telephone number is 01738 450477. All other contact details remain the same.

Many of you know that jewellery and gemmology is not only my chosen profession but my passion too, so any opportunity to get involved in this subject is always accepted.
I have created a business Page on Facebook. This social networking website seems to be appealing to people of a "certain age" now and is no longer purely a meeting place for youngsters.
This page allows direct two-way communication with folk that are interested in jewellery, gemstones and valuation.
My "Fans", as they are called, can pose questions to me, upload images of their favourite items of jewellery and generally share in discussions with other fans. It also allows me to keep fans up to date with jewellery related events happening in Scotland and news on interesting cases I have worked on etc.
Why not become a fan and join in the fun?

a fan" button.
See you there!
